Bird of small size (about 12 cm or 4.5 in), plumage of muted tones, with whitish cheek and nape, black throat and head, back and wings of grey blue colour and breast and belly of ocher tones.
Woodland environment
Forest species that is usually present in treetops and tall branches, especially in pine woods with a fresh environment but also in Quercus formations. Occasionally in parks and gardens with trees. It is not usually on the ground or in thickets.
Species resident in the province all year round. It starts breeding in January or February, making two annual layings of 5 to 10 eggs, and builds the nest in tree holes. Specialist in capturing spiders among the cracks in the branches of trees, but also other small insects in them. In winter it also consumes pine nuts.
Present in stages of the Great Path with pine formations such as 7, 11, 12, 20, 21, 22, 31, 33 and 34.
The Coal Tit is a bird difficult to detect due to its small size and to the fact that it is difficult to see it in the treetops among the branches. Its singing is a good option to find a specimen. It searches with the bill for the small insects of the pines, hence its name in Spanish "garrapinos", which stands for "remove things from pines"
