Where it lives

Species linked to grasslands and flooded meadows of fresh water and, to a lesser extent, irrigated crops and reeds. Very demanding in terms of habitat.

How it lives

Very rare bird in Malaga and that can be watched occasionally during its migratory passage. It breeds between May and July. Polygamous males. Nest in the shape of a cup very close to waterlogged vegetation. One laying of 3 to 6 eggs. Main breeding population in Poland. Insectivore.

Where it can be seen in Malaga

Although exceptionally scarce, this species visits every year some locations of Malaga during its migrations. The Aquatic Warbler's small size and very discreet habits and the fact that it is always among the riparian vegetation make it very difficult to detect. The last observations have taken place in the lower course of the Guadalhorce river.

Curious facts

Its Latin name, in addition to making reference to the peculiar head of warblers (large, deformed and pointed) specifies the environment where it inhabits. "Paludicola" (paludis - colere) means "inhabitant of the marshes".
