Torcaces or "torcales", as they are known in Malaga, take their name from the Latin "torques" or necklace, referring to the white collar they exhibit on the neck. They are one of the bird species that are currently expanding. Like wild boars, they are favored by the increase in forest stands and the fact that they are also increasingly entering urban environments.
